"Ici la Basilique Santa Maria della Salute de Venise, aux bords du grand canal, les travaux de construction commencèrent en 1631 au lendemain d'une épidémie de peste qui décima un tiers de la population du nord de l'Italie. Les travaux s'achevèrent en 1687, 5 ans après la mort de l'architecte, Baldassare Longhena. Incarnant la renaissance italienne dans toute sa splendeur c'est une des destinations qu'il me faut absolument voir de mes propres yeux."

"Here the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice, on the banks of the Grand Canal, construction work began in 1631 the day after an epidemic of plague which decimated a third of the population of northern Italy. The work was completed in 1687, 5 years after the death of the architect, Baldassare Longhena. Embodying the Italian renaissance in all its splendour, it is one of the destinations that I absolutely must see with my own eyes."
